During Black History Month, we honour the life and witness of St. Josephine Bakhita, a woman of profound faith, resilience, and compassion.

Once enslaved, she later became a religious sister whose life reflected forgiveness, humility, and unwavering trust in God.

“May her example inspire us to carry our cross and to love always.”

At Lakeland Catholic, we are reminded that faith and action go hand in hand, and that compassion, dignity, and hope must guide all we do.

Our school was overflowing with the Holy Spirit this past Friday! We had an incredible day hosting the Face to Face team for a powerful faith retreat. Our students lifted their voices in praise and worship, and encountered Our Lord in a real way.
The biggest takeaway? No matter what we face, God is Unshakable. He is always by our side, anchoring us in His love.

Sunday Gospel: Jesus told his followers to be "salt" and "light," which means we should all actively strive to improve and brighten the world around us. Instead of keeping our faith a secret, we are meant to live in a way that does good for others and brings honour to God.

L’Évangile du dimanche : Jésus a dit à ses disciples d’être « le sel » et « la lumière », ce qui signifie que nous devrions tous nous efforcer activement d'améliorer et d'illuminer le monde qui nous entoure. Sunday Gospel: The Beatitudes! This gospel speaks to how we are all called to live, and the promise of the Kingdom of Heaven. Instead of worldly success, Jesus blesses the humble, broken-hearted, and righteous, promising divine comfort and inheritance to those who follow Him.

L’Évangile du dimanche : Les Béatitudes ! Cet Évangile nous rappelle notre appel à tous sur la manière de vivre et la promesse du Royaume des Cieux. Au lieu du succès terrestre, Jésus bénit les humbles, ceux qui ont le cœur brisé et les justes, promettant le réconfort divin et l'héritage éternel à ceux qui le suivent.

This past month we had the honour of having the FNMI Atlas Floor Map at ÉNDE. The students had the opportunity to walk across the map, exploring the vast history, traditions, and territories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples to the present day. It was a powerful opportunity to visualize the land through an Indigenous lens and take a meaningful step toward Truth and Reconciliation.

Economic Justice reminds us that fairness and dignity must be at the heart of how communities function.

This Catholic Social Teaching calls us to consider how resources are shared, how work is valued, and how decisions impact those most in need. It challenges us to ensure that economic systems serve people and uphold human dignity.

In our schools, Economic Justice is reflected through responsible stewardship, fairness, and learning to make choices that respect the dignity of others.

Across Lakeland Catholic Schools today, staff are taking part in Pathways to Excellence professional learning — a dedicated day focused on enhancing student learning.

These days begin with faith formation, grounding our work in the belief that Christ is our Model and children are our focus. Educators then come together to focus on literacy and numeracy, strengthen classroom practice, and share approaches that support student success across grades and schools.

Pathways to Excellence days are intentional and purposeful. They provide time for collaboration, reflection, and alignment so learning remains consistent, meaningful, and responsive to student needs.

This work matters. It supports teachers, strengthens classrooms, and directly benefits students — academically, socially, and spiritually.

Today is Family Literacy Day! May we celebrate the precious gift of reading together as families. Whether it’s reading a bedtime story, sharing Scripture, or exploring a new book, these moments nurture faith, connection, and curiosity.

Last week, our school community shared a beautiful journey for Christian Unity Week. Students across all grades visited various local churches, seeing firsthand how our diverse traditions are united by the same hope and love of Christ.
In addition, Mrs. Scoles visited every grade to share a powerful reminder: we are called to be the "light of the world," and that light is meant to be shared! The classrooms were filled with the sound of students singing "My Lighthouse," a joyful commitment to letting their light shine and spreading God’s love to everyone they meet.

Sunday Gospel: In today's gospel, Jesus starts His public ministry. Jesus proclaims the kingdom of heaven is near. He calls upon His first disciples to be "fisher of men", to bring people to Christ. Jesus continues His ministries by going around teaching, preaching and healing. Ways we can follow Jesus: Pray as a family, talk to God in the silence of your heart and volunteer(serve).

Across the Division, students engaged in meaningful learning that built literacy and numeracy skills, encouraged problem‑solving, and strengthened confidence. From Learning Strategies at Assumption, to one‑to‑one literacy instruction at Holy Cross, to Grade 5/6 goal setting in Wellness at Holy Family, to numeracy work and shared reading at École Notre Dame Elementary, classrooms remained focused on learning that supports the whole child — academically, socially, and spiritually.

Students who were unable to attend were provided with learning activities to support continued learning from home.

Thank you to our families, staff, and students for their dedication to learning today. The day reinforced the importance of consistency and connection for students.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday!
