What an incredible start to our LCSD Early Learning Foundations Open House at École Notre Dame Elementary School!

Thank you to the many families who joined us to explore how Lakeland Catholic’s Christ-centred early learning program helps children entering Preschool (P3 & PK4) and Kindergarten build strong foundations long before Grade 1.

Young learners explored hands-on learning centres designed to nurture early literacy, numeracy, creativity, movement, and faith through play, while families connected with our teachers and support team to learn how Lakeland Catholic intentionally supports each child’s development.

Our Early Learning Foundations approach ensures children begin their school journey feeling confident, supported, and excited to learn — building the skills that will guide them throughout their education.

More open houses are coming soon, and we would love to welcome your family.

📍 Upcoming Open Houses

St. Dominic – April 9 (9–11 AM)
Holy Cross – April 9 (1–3 PM)
Light of Christ – April 16 (8:30–10:30 AM)

Today, EAL students at École Notre Dame Elementary and Dr. Brosseau School learned about the story of St. Patrick and how he used the shamrock to help teach the mystery of the Holy Trinity. Just as three leaves form one shamrock, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct yet united as one God.

Our Grade 2 students recently visited Extendicare to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the residents through a variety of festive activities. In alignment with Priority 1, this visit allowed our students to practice genuine kindness and show heartfelt care for the elderly, as Jesus taught us. It was a wonderful day for everyone involved, filled with smiles, laughter, and a true sense of connection.

Sunday Gospel: "Living Water" - I love this...these two words bring pause to the heart and allows us to take a deep breath. Jesus offers us "living water", spiritual and eternal life. Jesus breaks down any social, racial or gender barriers to reveal He is the true Saviour of the world. This gospel tells us that no one is too broken or outcast to receive God's mercy, that the gospel and true salvation is for all people.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Today, Lakeland Catholic honours the women in our division, our schools, and our communities who lead with faith and serve with great love — often through the small, faithful acts that shape lives in lasting ways.

“The Lord bless you, my daughter. You are known as a woman of noble character.” – Ruth 3:11

May we continue to recognize and support the women whose dedication, wisdom, and compassion strengthen our schools and support student success each day.

🏒 Kindness on and off the Ice
Students at École Notre Dame Elementary School had a special visit from members of the Bonnyville Pontiacs hockey team, who shared an important message about kindness and leadership.
Through the THINK message, students were encouraged to pause and reflect before they speak:
T – True
H – Helpful
I – Inspiring
N – Necessary
K – Kind

Students also joined the team in making the Pontiac Pledge, committing to show kindness and encourage it in others.

Thank you to the Bonnyville Pontiacs for taking the time to inspire our students and remind us that kindness matters — helping form hearts in Christ.

LCSD Early Learning Foundations Open House 2026
A Strong Start That Leads to Pathways of Excellence

Lakeland Catholic School Division is excited to welcome families with children entering Preschool (PK3 & PK4) and Kindergarten in Fall 2026 to our Early Learning Foundations Open House.

🏫 École Notre Dame Elementary School
🗓️ Wednesday, March 18
🕙 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Drop in anytime!)

At Lakeland Catholic, we believe a strong start changes everything. Inspired by our faith theme of doing small things with great love, our LCSD Early Learning Foundations are intentionally designed to build early literacy, numeracy, confidence, and a love of learning — setting children up for success long before Grade 1.

During your visit, your child will:
🌿 Explore hands-on, play-based learning centers
🌿 Build early literacy and numeracy skills
🌿 Strengthen fine and gross motor development
🌿 Engage in faith-filled activities rooted in Christ
🌿 Meet caring school staff

Families will also have the opportunity to connect with our Early Support Team — including speech-language, occupational therapy, and learning support professionals — who work alongside teachers to ensure each child’s unique gifts are recognized and nurtured.
This joyful, welcoming experience allows us to get to know your child as a learner, build a strong partnership with your family, and prepare thoughtfully for a confident start to school.

We can’t wait to welcome our littlest learners and walk alongside them with great love!

Open House PreK 2026 - NDE
Subsidiarity and the Role of Government reminds us that decisions should be made by those closest to the situation, with support from larger systems when needed.

March’s Catholic Social Teaching calls us to recognize the importance of local voices, shared responsibility, and collaborative leadership. It teaches that while governments and institutions play an essential role in supporting the common good, they should not replace the wisdom, initiative, and dignity of individuals, families, and communities.

In our schools, Subsidiarity is reflected when we empower students, families, staff, and school leaders to contribute to decisions that affect them. It encourages us to work together, and supporting one another at the appropriate level. Solutions are thoughtful, responsive, and rooted in community.

LCSD Early Learning Foundations 2026 Campaign 1
Sunday Gospel: Jesus took Peter, James and John up the mountain to show them who He really is. Jesus shone brightly, in divine glory, wherein God spoke to them, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him." It was a glimpse of the what is to come, and a reminder, that no matter how dark life can get, there is always a light, and that the glory of our Lord, is the final word.
